Northern Mallee Pipeline Project |
|
Channel supplies in the Northern Mallee are increasingly being converted to a piped water supply. Water is sourced directly from the Murray River and delivered through pressurised pipeline systems, reducing water losses in the supply system.
Almost 30% of the Northern Mallee channel supply area was converted to pipe supplies by 2004, achieving significant security of supply and water quality benefits. The water savings being achieved also make water available for environmental water releases in rivers and streams within the region.
GWMWater operates four pump stations on the Murray River at Swan Hill, Piangil, Nyah and Liparoo. These pump stations supply bulk water to urban storages and rural customers via the Northern Mallee Pipeline.
