Check leaks

The most likely areas where leaks can occur are from taps, faulty toilet cisterns and underground pipes. Also check watering systems regularly for breaks or leaks.

How to check for a leak

>  Check for dripping taps or unseen leaks. Turn off all taps and water using appliances and ensure no one sues any water. Note the meter reading and wait 30 minutes then read the meter again. If the reading has changed – you have a leak!

Refer to our how to read your water meter brochure for information on your water meter.

>  A leaking cistern is easy to check. Put a little food colouring in the tank. If the water in the bowl starts to change colour without flushing, the cistern should be repaired.

If you have a water leak on your property, you will need to contact a plumber.

Remember, wasting water wastes money too.
