Wimmera-Mallee pipeline bulk entitlement amendments

The Wimmera-Mallee Pipeline Project was officially opened by then Premier of Victoria, John Brumby and the Minister for Water, Tim Holding, on 15 April 2010.

The Wimmera-Mallee Pipeline project involved replacing 17,000 kilometres of open channel system with 9,159 kilometres of underground pipeline.

The pipeline will save on average 103 billion litres of water a year and provide a continuous water supply to approximately 9,000 farms and 34 townships across the Wimmera and Mallee.

The Minister for Water approved the bulk entitlement amendment to formally allocate the 103 billion litres of water which reflected operational changes as a result of the completion of the pipeline.

The applications reflect the Wimmera-Mallee Pipeline Project commitment to provide:
> 83 billion litres of water a year to the region’s river systems including the Wimmera, Glenelg, Avon-Richardson, Avoca, Goulburn and Loddon rivers as environmental flows; and
> 20 billion litres of additional growth water for regional economic development including two billion litres which to service Hamilton and surrounding towns.
