Reservoir management rules approved

As part of the region’s new-look water supply system, Victorian Water Minister Peter Walsh has endorsed management rules for the system’s ten reservoirs i.e. Lake Bellfield, Lake Toolondo, Lake Lonsdale, Lake Fyans, Pine Lake, Dock Lake, Green Lake (near Horsham), Lake Wartook, Rocklands Reservoir and Moora Moora Reservoir.

A regional working group including representatives from the Wimmera and Glenelg Catchment Management Authorities, other bulk entitlement holders and GWMWater made recommendations to Minister Walsh after almost six years of consultation across the region.

This completes the second stage of a process that commenced in 2006. The first stage was completed in 2008 and attracted 165 written submissions in response to a series of discussion papers released for public comment. The second phase involved the release of ten discussion papers for public comment and community information forums in Stawell, Horsham, Laharum, Balmoral, Dimboola and Warracknabeal in September 2011.
