Installation of fire hydrants in the Taylors Lake to Yaapeet supply system is proceeding with the laying of the pipeline.

Draft mapping of the location of fire hydrants and tanks has been developed for Supply System 5 (Berriwillock and Culgoa). CFA Region 20 is currently consulting with the relevant local brigades on the detailed locations of the hydrants, in readiness for the final design of this system. Local government input will be sought early in 2007.

On Tuesday 11 July Minister for State and Regional Development, Hon John Brumby, announced
“$1.25 million toward the cost of fire hydrants and water tanks associated with the Wimmera-Mallee pipeline development. The Government’s commitment acknowledges the continuing difficult climatic conditions in North West Victoria and the financial pressures on local councils and primary producers. The funding represents 50 per cent of the cost of new hydrants with the balance to be met by the Federal Government and/or local councils.”
Further discussions are continuing within Councils regarding the balance of the funding required for the provision of fire services within the WMPP.
